Marijuana Legalization Rally Planned for Athens Georgia April 28, 2014
Athens, GA – With more than 60% of likely voters supporting some type of marijuana law reform, Georgia CARE Project plans a rally in Athens, Georgia to bring attention to the harm marijuana prohibition is causing in the state.
James Bell, director of Georgia CARE said showing public support for reform is the key to social change.
“The public is firmly behind us on this issue”, Bell said. “Our goal is to move the issue to forefront and convince our lawmakers to begin an open public debate so we can determine what approach Georgia should take. The first step would be to decriminalize small amounts of cannabis.”
One ounce (28 grams) of marijuana carries up to 10 years in state prison.
Bell points out over 30,000 arrests occur in Georgia each year diverting resources away from more serious criminal issues.
The rally will take place at the Athens GA City Hall on Monday April 28, 2014 at 11:00 am. The public is invited to bring creative banners and sign in support of marijuana reform. Guest speakers from various organizations will participate.
